  2. Negotiation-helping children solve problems/conflicts
  3. Setting limits-keeps children safe and in bounds
  4. Modifying the environment-making changes when necessary
  5. Facilitating-assist children with solving problems
  6. Reinforcement-validating their importance and valuing their positive choices
  7. Redirection-directing the child to a new activity

Programming for Diversity

At the Huntington Hills Out of School Care Program we feel that diversity of our children and staff is an enhancement to our Program. We feel that it is important to ensure that our programming reflects this diversity. We do this by:

  • Programming that includes and reflects the cultures of the children in our care and their holidays
  • Providing children with diverse resources and materials
  • Ensuring that all activities are adaptable and all children can participate
  • Incorporating children’s input into activities, including having the children educate one another about their different background and culture
  • Allowing for and encouraging expressions of individuality
  • Providing snacks that are inclusive of other cultures
  • Hosting a yearly “Around the World” potluck lunch
  • Accommodating dietary restrictions if food is served during special events
