Child care accreditation in Alberta is built on pillars of standards, current research and leading practices which is the foundation of accreditation in child care. Accreditation is a voluntary process for licensed daycares, approved dayhome agencies and before and after school programs recognizing them as higher quality child care above the provincial standard licensing requirements. Child care programs are certified up to 3 years with annual reviews by the Alberta Association for the Accreditation for Early Learning and Care Services (AELCS) if they have met the accreditation standards (http://www.humanservices.alberta.ca/documents/accreditation-evaluation-and-scoring-framework.pdf).
