Franklin Children’s Centre is an accredited and not-for-profit society managed by a board comprised of parents and the managing director.
Our purpose is to provide quality care for children entrusted to us. We provide a safe, secure and creative environment which launches many learning experiences. We let children choose their own interests and encourage hands-on-fun. Children in our care gain social skills from interacting with adults and peers, pre-academic skills through activities, and creative thinking through dramatic play.
We operate under an open concept family-style childcare philosophy providing an environment where children of various age groups are able to interact throughout the day. Mixed-age groups foster a learning environment in which younger children learn basic self-care and social skills by observing older children, and older children learn to nurture and empathize by helping younger children and by observing staff care for them. Another benefit of family-style child care is that children in all age groups interact with all staff, fostering familiarity and continuity over time. Finally, family-style childcare allows siblings to be together.
We encourage the growth and development of self-esteem in each child as an individual, a member of the family, and as a member of their peer group through the development of language skills and reasoning abilities.
We have a variety of activity centre’s which are, for the most part, self-directed with a learning through play approach. Our equipment and supplies are age appropriate to allow the child to slowly move through his or her stages of development, allowing for success and challenges. Providing each child with a variety of physical environments, toys, materials, and situations to assist in the development of gross and fine motor skills.
In addition to daily programming that promotes skill development and healthy self-esteem, the Centre offers regular special programming including group singalongs with Rick the Music Man, yoga classes and storytime in partnership with the Calgary Public Library.
