Welcome to South Calgary Montessori Child Care!
South Calgary Montessori an Alberta Accredited Facility and is a program dedicated to the Montessori philosophy, care and education of children. Individual growth and independence are fostered in a balanced class of mixed ages with peers at each developmental stage. The combination of different ages allows children opportunity to learn from each other and permits older children to reinforce skills by sharing their knowledge with younger children. We allow students to work at their pace, exploring math, language, geography, science, arts and music involving children in a series of sequential, manipulative, and sensorial activities that lead them from concrete to abstract learning.
We have 4 classroom in our facility that includes toddlers and preschool, pre-k and kindergarten and a mini gym.
We also have Spanish and French class.
We are located at #105-4720 106 Ave S.E. Calgary AB T2C 3G5.
Dr. Maria Montessori understood that a uniform approach to education does not work for everyone because everyone learns differently and at their own pace. As a result, she created a prepared environment to accommodate a wealth of interests. The Montessori method concentrates on the individual needs of the child. Children are instructed as they pursue their own passions. Ultimately, children learn because they want to learn not because they are told today what to learn.
Dr. Montessori’s observations of the kinds of things which children enjoy, and go back to repeatedly, led her to design a number of multi-sensory, sequential, and self correcting materials to facilitate learning. In order for self directed learning to take place, the whole learning environment – classroom, materials, and social setting atmosphere – must be supportive of the child. We provide the necessary resources, including opportunities for children to function in a safe and positive environment. Together, with the child we form a relationship based on trust and respect that fosters self confidence and willingness to try new things throughout life.
