Welcome to TOPP KIDS Out of School Clubs – St. Philips Fine Arts School

Our Centre:

St. Philip is a Fine Arts School so TOPP KIDS carried this idea through the creation of this program and developed a sophisticated art program where the children have the opportunity to create by both themselves and as part of a team. Many of our projects are designed to incorporate ideas from the weekly themes. Coupled with the art program, the children at St. Philip participate in lots of free time for child-led play, clubs, and daily group games lead by the daily leader. Our centre design allows for active play with half of the gymnasium left open for active play, sports, dancing, etc.

Our Philosophy & Mission Statement:

At TOPP KIDS Out of School Clubs we know each child is unique. There are 4 fundamentals that we both believe in and practice every day in everything we do: Play, Grow, Laugh & Learn.

We provide an environment that is safe, nurturing and stimulating, where children learn and develop through play and exploration. Our physical environment, as well as our developmentally-appropriate curriculums, are designed to meet the needs of children in all areas of development (social, physical, intellectual, cognitive, and emotional). Individualized planning and supportive interactions between our staff and the children help us to create an atmosphere that feels safe and encourage feelings of self-worth, creativity and leadership. We aim to develop true TOPP KIDS!

It is our mission to provide accessible, affordable & high quality Out of School programs and training to Albertan families and Early Childhood Educators.

Centre Values:

Using the “Bucket Filling” technique, children learn and discover how they can experience the joy of helping, sharing, and giving. This approach focuses on positive behavior. The term fill a bucket is taught and its call to action is: What can you do to fill a bucket? Imagination and creativity are valued, fostered and encouraged.

Q Is snack provided?

Snacks are not provided due to allergies. We recommend children to have a designated morning and afternoon snack packed specifically for TOPP KIDS. Please keep in mind that all of our programs are nut free!

Q My child has exceptional needs. Is TOPP KIDS inclusive?

You bet! We’re not just inclusive we are integrative.

Some of the participants in our programs need help developing and growing their communities. Social skills and group interactions can be barriers to inclusion, and our Youth Community Facilitators* are in place in programs to help particularly with these children, but also in the group as a whole.

Although the children in our programs come from a larger community in the schools they attend, they do not necessarily come into our programs with a set inclusive community. Youth Community Facilitators* are in place to grow and foster this community, and help both leaders and children come together as a cohesive group.

We try to ensure that each child is striving toward reaching their greatest potential by helping to maintain their dignity in all situations, providing opportunities for relationship and community development and growth, giving each child responsibility within their individual capacity, and helping to grow and maintain self-esteem.

Q Can my child drop in occasionally?

Yes! Drop-in availability is determined by centre. Please contact the Program Coordinator directly at the location you are interested for details!

Q Is TOPP KIDS open when there is no school?

We provide care during P.D. days, Teacher Conferences, and spring break!

We also provide extended care on Early Dismissal days.

We operate a Summer Camp at a separate location for July and August. We are closed on Statutory Holidays and during Winter Break.

Q Can my child walk home from the program?

We will only allow your child(ren) to walk home alone from our program if we have a note or phone call from a parent or guardian of that child. There must be a parent, guardian, or sibling at least 12 years old at home to receive your child. No unauthorized person shall be allowed to communicate this action to us.

TOPP KIDS is not liable if there is an incident while walking home.

Q Does TOPP KIDS have a kindergarten program?

We currently have full-day kindergarten programs at Maple Ridge, St. Philip, Prince Of Wales, Evergreen, McKenzie Lake, North Haven and Holy Child Schools and before and after kindergarten care at all other locations.
