Q What does your programming or curriculum look like?

Our choice-based programming encourages children to make decisions for themselves throughout their day. We believe that this allows children to experience the world in their own unique way. We offer provocations to provoke thoughts, ideas and lead to more interest-based activities. Recreational programming takes place in an unstructured, child-oriented environment that fosters the child’s mental, emotional, physical and spiritual needs and stage of development. These care and play experiences support their individual development and learning.

Q Does YW Childcare offer a preschool program?

At this time YW Childcare does not offer a formal half-day preschool program. However, the emergent curriculum in our full-day childcare program offers opportunities similar to a preschool program stretched out over the day.

Q What does a typical day look like?

Each room has a slightly different schedule and is flexible to meet the needs of the children as a group. Daily routines such as eating, toileting and rest time are consistent each day. For a detailed look at the room schedule for your child’s prospective room, please contact us.

Q What type of transition schedule do you recommend?

To best support families and children as they transition to the YW Childcare Centre, each family is required to come in together for a one-hour morning visit to see how their child adjusts. Additionally, the family can work with the educator to identify what additional transition support may be beneficial for each child.

Q How does YW Childcare stay connected with families?

Our centre is committed to providing clear, consistent communication with all families. We also ask that parents maintain ongoing open communication with the educators by verbally checking in at arrival and pick-up each day and/or by filling out their child’s daily. In addition, the centre provides weekly email updates and monthly newsletters for all families.

Q Does your YW Childcare accept government subsidy?

Yes, YW childcare accepts childcare subsidy. Families using government subsidy are required to pay their parent portion by the 1st of each month. Families are responsible for the subsidy applications and renewals and to keep the centre informed of any changes. For more government subsidy resources visit ywcalgary.ca/childcare

Q What if my child has specific dietary requirements?

Our centre offers a standard and vegan menu to meet the diverse dietary needs of the children attending. If your child requires a specific diet please notify the centre at time of registration. If your child requires a specific milk substitute we ask that parents provide that option for their child. Almond and Cashew milks are not permitted at the centre.
